Rate of synthesis of desoxyribonucleic acid and mitotic rate in liver and intestine.

چکیده
The incorporation of radiophosphorus (P”“) into desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has been shown to parallel the incidence of mitosis in various tissues (14). In tissues without mitotic activity, such as brain cortex, skeletal muscle, and cartilage, injected P32 was not found in DNA (4). Accordingly, it is generally thought that the presence of P32 in DNA occurs as a result of the synthesis of additional DNA which accompanies mitosis (14). In the present work, the rate of incorporation of P32 into DNA and the rate at which new cells are formed by mitosis were measured quantitatively and the results compared. This was done in rat liver, an organ with a low mitotic activity, and in rat intestinal mucosa, a tissue with a high mitotic activity. In both cases, twice as much phosphorus appeared in DNA as could be accounted for by the synthesis of the additional DNA required for the new cells. This finding may be explained only by assuming that all of the DNA phosphorus (DNA P) of the cells arising from mitosis is newly formed.

A comparison of the rate of formation of desoxyribonucleic acid phosphorus (DNA P) wit,h that of cell production in the liver and intestinal epithelium of the rat showed that, in both tissues, the amount of newly formed DNA P was about twice that generally assumed to be required for the formation of new cells by mitosis (1). Since the rate of mitosis is very slow in liver and very fast in the i...

متن کاملSpecific growth rate and mitotic index in dinoflagellate Symbiodinium sp. isolateed from sea anemone Stichodactyla haddoni
The cultivation techniques of dinoflagellates is often problematic due to their sensitivity to hydrodynamic (shear) stress. For this study, sea anemone was collected from the east coast of Hormuz Island. First, we extracted symbiotic dinoflagellate, Symbiodinium sp. from Stichodactylla haddoni using manually homogenization. After transferring to the laboratory, samples were cultured in differen...

متن کاملProtective role of ferulic acid against the damaging effect induced by electromagnetic waves on rat liver and intestine tissues
Background: the increasing use of mobile phones in daily life causes many concerns about their effects on human health. Therefore, this work was designed to study the effects of exposure to 1800 MHz electromagnetic waves (EMW) on the liver and intestine of male albino rats and the protective role of ferulic acid (FA) against these harmful effects. Materials and Methods: twenty-four male albino ...
